Australian Manufacturing Week came to Brisbane for the first time in its 20-year history this May. Seven thousand industry leaders, engineers, and decision-makers from across Australia and overseas — all here to see what Queensland manufacturing looks like.
The Queensland Government hand-picked a small group of manufacturers from across South East Queensland to host site tours as part of the event. We were one of them.
We’ve been making blinds, shutters, awnings, and security screens in Cleveland since 1987. That’s not something we say to fill space. It’s the reason we were chosen.
Why ONESOLOMON?
The site tour program was designed to show what best-practice Queensland manufacturing actually looks like from the inside. Not a showroom. Not a pitch. A real factory floor, running real jobs, with real processes behind every cut and every measure.
The government selected us on the basis of our Lean and continuous improvement journey. Over the past several years, we’ve been doing the unglamorous work of examining how we operate — identifying waste, tightening processes, building standard procedures, and building a team that owns quality at every stage of production.
That work isn’t finished. It never is. But it’s real, and it’s measurable, and it shows.
What Visitors Saw
Delegates walked through our Cleveland facility and saw how a Queensland manufacturer produces made-to-measure products at scale — from fabric cutting and component production through to quality checking and dispatch.
They saw the process improvements that come from years of asking the same question: is there a better way to do this?
The answer, as it turns out, is usually yes.
What AMW Meant for Queensland
This was the first time in more than two decades that Australian Manufacturing Week left Sydney or Melbourne. The Queensland Government made a deliberate push to bring it here — and to use the event to show that Queensland’s manufacturing sector contributes more than $29 billion to the state economy, employing close to 180,000 people.
The site tour program was part of that story. Not a trade display. A live demonstration that the capability exists, that it’s been built through genuine effort, and that it’s happening right here.
We were glad to be part of it.
The Measuring Twice Part
Being selected for a government-hosted manufacturing showcase isn’t something we sought out as a marketing exercise. We’re not in the business of telling people how good we are.
But when an invitation like this comes, it matters. It tells us the work we’ve put into our processes — the SOPs, the quality reviews, the relentless focus on doing things right the first time — is registering beyond our own four walls.
We make window furnishings for Queensland homes and businesses. We’ve done it for nearly 40 years. The way we think about it: the product is only as good as the process behind it.
Measured twice. Every time.
ONESOLOMON manufactures and installs blinds, shutters, awnings, and security screens from Cleveland, Queensland. We’ve been doing it since 1987.
